Getting an Exhumation Licence

Anyone applying for permission to exhume must provide and complete considerable documentation whether you require a Ministry of Justice exhumation Licence or a Bishops Faculty.

To obtain an exhumation license, you need to complete an application form and send it to the relevant burial authority that administers the cemetery where the deceased is.

Once signed, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for approval to obtain your exhumation licence.

Although guide notes are provided by both the Ministry of Justice & the Church of England, applications are complex and carry no guarantee of acceptance.

A significant amount of documentation is required to complete an exhumation application. Rowland Brothers Exhumation services offers a free exhumation application assistance service, to help you get all the necessary details into your application to support the success of your application.
